One day he was on a pilgrimage with his mother to the church of Saint Julian the martyr. That evening they reached a spot which was dry and sterile, for no water ran there. 'Son,' said his mother to him, 'we have no water. We cannot possibly spend the night here.' Aredius prostrated himself in prayer and continued to supplicate our Lord for a very long time. Then he stood up and stuck the stick which be was holding in his band in the ground. He twisted it round in a circle two or three times and then with a happy smile pulled it out. So much water gushed out that not only was there enough for their own present needs but they were able to water their animals.88
Not so long ago, when Aredius was on a journey, great rain clouds began to blow up. As soon as be saw this, he bowed his head a little over the horse which he was riding and raised his hand to God. He had no sooner finished his prayer than the cloud split into two parts: all round them the rain poured down in torrents, but not a single drop fell on them.
Deutsch, S.
